Direct Action– Small-Scale offensive operations to harass enemy forces in hostile or denied areas.

Special Reconnaissance – Information acquisition on the capabilities, intentions, and activities of enemy forces.

Preparation of the Environment – Intelligence collection to prepare for future operations.

Security Force Assistance – Work with allied foreign governments to achieve operational objectives.

Counter Terrorism – Prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist threats.

Foreign Internal Defense – Train, advice, and assist foreign governments and their militaries.

Counterinsurgency – Conduct military, paramilitary, political, economic, psychological, and civic action operations to defeat insurgency.
